The Coffee House, Seminyak, Bali

This little Coffee House is a little hard to find, though I'm sure most people who have visited Seminyak will know where it is located.

Hubby is a Tripadvisor and a coffee addict (okay, we're both coffee addicts).  So when he wanted coffee one afternoon he searched and found this place.

This place is known for good food.  Especially the Red Velvet cake.

Yummy Red Velvet Cake - it's hard to stop at one!

The Coffee House is located on a main road, and if you manage to get a seat near the front of the shop, it's interesting watching the world go past.  We even spotted ladders and huge pictures being transported on scooters!

The staff are very friendly and approachable.  Upon arrival we were handed cool scented cloths to cool our faces with.  The food was great, the juices and iced-coffee were amazing.  It was so good that we went back two more times during our stay!

This is a great place to chill out, and we will go back to the Coffee House next time we're in Seminyak!

Bali Getaway / The Amala

It's been a while since our last holiday, which included a whole lot of sightseeing.  So the criterea set for this one was a week of rest and relaxation.

We fell in love with Bali during our last visit to Ubud, so we agreed on Seminyak, which is located just 15 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport.  This area is known Bali's most exciting and exclusive address - a hearty mix of life and leisure.

After much research, we chose accommodation that was close to shopping and restaurants, so he booked us a villa at The Amala, located on Jalan Kunti. According to their website "in the ancient Sanskrit language, Amala means pure and unspoiled."

We stayed in one of their spa villas (there are a total of 6 one-bedroom villas), which included a jacuzzi and a shower / sauna, which can be scented with a selection of wild herbs. Along with the usual room facilities, you also get a selection of hand-made soaps made from wild herbs and a 24-hour butler service.

On arrival at The Amala, the check-in procedure was done in the comfort of our villa.  Our Butler, Edy showed us around the villa, explaining how everything worked and even recommended which scent to use in the sauna.

You are presented with welcome drinks in your villa whilst you check-in.

Here are some pictures of our spa villa:

What is behind those doors?

The Bedroom of course!

The staff at The Amala treated us like "one of the family," from the moment we arrived right up to the day of our depature.

The staff are approachable and their knowledge of the area and where to eat and play is extensive, the recommendations they gave us did not dissappoint.  They can do everything, from making dinner reservations to suggesting local information on shopping, beaches and activities.

Beers for Books

The first inaugural Beers for Books event, to raise money for non-profit organisation Room to Read was held at the Fern and Kiwi last Tuesday evening.

The idea of this fundraiser is that invited guests get to enjoy a pint while supporting global literacy.

Beers for Books partnered up with Yelp Singapore who gave away freebies for guests who downloaded the app and check-in at the event.

They even had luggage tags for sale.  This is in conjunction with their Luggage Tag Challenge.  Find our more on the Room to Read: Singapore Chapter Facebook page.

This was a very fun evening, not only were there a lot of cool raffles prizes, but it also allowed the opportunity to network and find out more about what Room to Read is all about.
